Inca Trail Lares – Machu Picchu 4 Days / 3 Nights


Peru is a country full of wonderful destinations for adventurers and everyone who wants to disconnect from daily routine, disappear in and feel all the nature around you. The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is a path that will take you by various landscapes like snow mountains, fertile valleys, mighty rivers, archaeological ruins and a first-class modern wonder: Machu Picchu.


DAY 1: Cusco – Calca – Lares – Wacawasi

  • 6:00 Pick up from hotel. Transfer by car to Lares.
  • 7:00 Stop at Calca town
  • 9:30 Arrival to Lares town
  • 10:10 Start of the trek
  • 15:00 Arrival to the Wacawasi campsite

DAY 2: Wacawasi – Ipsaykassa – Patacancha

  • 6:00 Breakfast at the capsite
  • 9:00 Arrival to the Ipsaykassa Pass
  • 9:30 Visit of the Ipsaykassa Lagoon
  • 13:30 Arrival to the Patacancha campsite

DAY 3: Patacancha – Pallata – Pumamarca – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

  • 6:00 Breakfast at the campsite
  • 6:30 Trip by car to Pallata
  • 7:10 Trek start to Pumamarca
  • 8:00 Guided tour by Pumamarca archaeological ruins
  • 12:00 Arrival to Ollantaytambo town
  • ·Break, lunch and dinner.
  • ·*You will go to Aguas Calientes by train at night.

DAY 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

  • 06:30 Breakfast at the hotel and bus up to Machu Picchu
  • 08:00 Start of the Great Guided Tour by Machu Picchu
  • 12:00 Return to Aguas Calientes town by bus. Trip by train to Ollantaytambo. Return by car to Cusco.


For any traveler who wants to escape and explore an ancient path in Peru that has not changed in about 500 years, the Lares Trek is a perfect choice. In this beautiful area you will meet Andean people dressed in bright traditional ponchos and see the house and other buildings which were made of stones and straw roofs. Don’t forget to take a picture of lamas and alpacas!


DAY 1: Cusco – Calca – Lares – Wacawasi

At 6:00 am you will be picked up from your hotel and carried by car to Lares town. It will take about 3 hours. We will go through the Sacred Valley and stop at the town of Calca to visit the local market.

Later, we will continue by car to Lares town (3260 m – 10695 ft), the start of the Lares Trek. At this town you can enjoy the hot springs to relax and have a delicious lunch.

The first part of the trek will take about 4 hours up to the first campsite. The path is quite steep at the first 30 minutes but it will turn flatter after. We will cross a small river and get to Wacawasi village. During the trek you will see people dressed in traditional clothes including ponchos and hats. The campsite (3880 m – 12730 ft) is 40 minutes away from the village.

DAY 2: Wacawasi – Ipsaykassa – Patacancha

After the breakfast, we will start going up for 3 hours to the Ipsaykassa Pass. This place at 4450 m (14 600 ft) is the highest part of the trek. The landscape is full of Andean animals like alpaca, lamas and sheep’s and traditional houses built of stones and a straw roofs. Our lunch will be at the Ipsaycocha lagoon, 30 minutes away from the pass.

DAY 3: Patacancha – Pumamarca – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

We will start with the breakfast and then a 40-minute trip by car to Pallata. We will climb up for 45 minutes to the Pumamarca archaeological site where you will have a guided tour. Then we will take the old Inca Trail for 3 hours and then the way by the Patacancha River. Ollantaytambo town is our destination of DAY 3.

At Ollantaytambo we will have lunch and some free time to explore the town. You can visit the main square and a 1-hour walk to the Inca warehouse Qolqas. We will have dinner at a local restaurant and then take the train to Aguas Calientes. You will spend the night at a hotel.

DAY 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

After an early breakfast at the hotel you will gather with the guide to take the 25-minute bus to Machu Picchu. Up there, the Great Guided Machu Picchu Tour will start and take about 3 hours. You will visit the Sun Temple, the Main Square, the Intiwatana or Solar Clock Stone and the Condor Temple among others.

You will have free time after the tour to explore Machu Picchu by yourself and take thousands of pictures. When you are ready you can take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and later the train to Cusco where we will pick you up to your hotel.


Lares Trek to Machu Picchu hike Package Includes:
